Likely First Edition, dated 1868 on the title page with no additional printings listed. Clean and tightly bound in purple cloth with gilded titles. Fading to spine and minor wear at spine ends, remains Very Good. Contents include a color map of Vesuvius and two full page B/W illustrations. Very light shelf wear to text only. This copy is from a 19th Century private lending institution, the Mercantile Library of New York City. There are no external indications of the library's ownership. There is a penciled number and Mercantile Library stamp on the title page and some of the internal pages. A nice copy.
