About the Editors JAMES A. BANKS is professor and director of the Center for Multicultural Education at the University of Washington, Seattle. He has written or edited more than a dozen books in multicultural education and in social studies education. Professor Banks is past president of the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) and the American Educational Research Association (AERA). CHERRY A. McGEE BANKS is associate professor of education at the University of Washington, Bothell. Professor Banks is associate editor of the Handbook of Research on Multicultural Education, contributing author of Multicultural Education, Transformative Knowledge, and Action, and co-author of March Toward Freedom: A History of Black Americans.
