Multiculturalism and Education (Contemporary Issues in Education Studies)

`How we currently live and work together, and how we need to debate and make changes regarding how we should be living and working together, are central concerns for Richard Race's book on multicuuralism and education. Race provides a cogent and informed account of the issues we need to confront, and stimulates the reader's thinking through illuminative cases and reflexive opportunities. This book is a core text and so essential for reading, discussion and action for all of those concerned with the development of schools and schooling.' Helen M. Gunter, Professor of Educational Policy, Leadership and Management, University of Manchester, UK

`From the Canadian origins and the American insistence on a political continuum to British multicultural social and educational policy statements and issues in contemporary education, this text takes up both multiculturalism and multicultural education in nuanced terms. Empirical data and analysis of specific policy documents and a focus on the pressing contemporary issue of religious schools keep the text grounded while reflective exercises stimulate reflection. This is an illuminating and useful text that both describes the workings of multiculturalism and multicultural education and advocates for their continued employment in sociocultural diversity and schooling, integration and citizenship in contemporary and future British society.' Handel Kashope Wright, Canada Research Chair in Cultural Studies and Professor of Education, University of British Columbia, Canada.
