Multimedia, Subtitling and Captioning: As an Accessible Communication Tool

In this book we have endeavored to show how we can increase the accessibility of multimedia for information, education and entertainment using the available technology and digital platform. Multimedia platform has the power to increase the accessibility. The significance of research in using captioning as an accessibility tool is demonstrated and depicted in this book. An attempt is made this book to depict the usage of captioning as a means of increasing literacy, vocabulary and understanding of visuals in multimedia. Efforts have been made to evaluate the benefits of captioning to various types of population, those with and without hearing loss. Hence it is imperative that we use captioning as a norm in the field of education, information and entertainment. Captioning therefore provides the choice to the users of multimedia and this choice is democratic application of digital media for communication.
