This is the 1946 First American Edition of the third Pelican Book published by Penguin. "You and Music" was written by Christian Darnton, a distinguished English composer of classical music. Here is an excerpt from the rear cover blurb: "Christian Darnton's compositions include concertos for piano, viola, and harp, chamber music and several works for large orchestra. All of these works have been performed in Europe and America. His "Five Pieces for Orchestra" were among the three works chosen to represent England at the Festival of the International Society for Contemporary Music in Poland in 1939. His "Stalingrad Overture", performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London of March 1943, was broadcast [by BBC] in December of that year. Lately he has taken a deep interest in music of the theatre, for films, and amateur orchestras and choirs. He is presently working on his third symphony." Darnton joined the Communist Party of Great Britain in 1941, and this connection led to a diminishing of public appreciation of his works.
