Der Titel des Bandes sollte nicht verwirren, sondern Aufmerksamkeit erregen: Es gibt nahezu unzahlige Abhandlungen in Aufsatz- und Buchform mit dem Titelanteil Musik und ... (Sprache, Gesellschaft, Religion der Phantasie sind kaum Grenzen gesetzt). Ihnen sollte keineswegs ein weiterer Band hinzugefuegt werden. Vielmehr zielt das Wortchen als an Stelle von und auf die Vielzahl von Gesichtspunkten, unter denen das so schwer definierbare Phanomen Musik sinnvoll betrachtet werden kann. Es sollten jedoch keineswegs durch weitere Oberbegriffe neue Definitionsversuche angeregt werden; vielmehr galt es beispielhaft aufzuzeigen, welche Erkenntnismoglichkeiten allein in verschiedenen Blickrichtungen steckten. Die AutorInnen gehoren verschiedenen Generationen an, reprasentieren verschiedenste Teilgebiete ihrer Fachrichtungen, sind in diesen unterschiedlich sozialisiert und sprechen wohl auch durchaus verschiedene Interessensgruppen an. Daher wurden diese Unterschiede nicht durch editorische Maanahmen eingeebnet, sondern sichtbar belassen bis hin zu Zitierweisen, ja Fragen des Layouts.
