Muslim Family Law: A Sourcebook (Routledge Revivals)

First published in 1984, Muslim Family Law offers a comprehensive commentary and critique of the Muslim family law of India and Pakistan. It provides an in-depth analysis of statutes, cases, and materials that highlight modern judicial thought, legislative reforms, and academic criticism in the post-Independence era. The book examines the adaptation of Muslim law to the subcontinent, contrasting the constitutional frameworks of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the secular Republic of India. It explores the courts' treatment of legislation inherited from British rule and delves into reforms affecting marriage, spousal relationships, and parent-child dynamics.

By comparing legal trends in India and Pakistan, the book presents a concise, yet thorough account of the law as applied in practice, supported by key legislative texts, landmark court decisions, and a substantial bibliography. This essential sourcebook is invaluable for students of law in India and South Asia
