Grade 3-5-- While visiting their aunt's new guesthouse in Hawaii, twins Sara and Sam find themselves immersed in a mystery involving a lost idol, a phantom figure, and an ancient curse. The tropical setting and theme should have made this work more exciting than it is. Although the plot has a few unexpected twists and the solution is not overtly obvious, the characters and mood are poorly developed, and the dialogue is stilted and does not ring true.
