Gordon Burnham was born in the beautiful town of Traverse City, Michigan
and was raised in Grand Rapids, surrounded by rolling hills, lakes and the
Grand River. Nature, beauty and music were the things that drew his soul
inward and onward. Interest in music, art, writing, nature and spirituality
developed early and became his life's passions. He began playing music,
composing and writing as a boy and later majored in psychology and
minored in music at Western Michigan University.
From then on it was all music, spirituality and writing, playing his music
in coffeehouses and colleges from California to Boston and finally making
a home on the south shore of Boston, in an idyllic harbor town called Cohasset.
Gordon also found his spiritual home there, in Cohasset, MA. at the
Vedanta Centre, under the spiritual leadership of Srimata Gayatri Devi.
He was appointed to the position of Music Director, and wrote much of the
ashram's music, coordinating music for all activities, leading the music, and
recording and publishing music for the center.
Joan Borysenko and her former husband Miroslav Borysenko came to
know and love Gordon's music and lyrics and felt they should be brought
to a larger audience, so they produced and promoted his first solo album,
"Rhythm of Life". He began providing music for workshops from Boston to
Seattle with Joan, and was soon leading his own workshops and giving
concerts in major New Age and spiritual centers throughout the US.
Gordon also taught Music Therapy at Northeastern University, Boston, MA.,
and brought much of this knowledge and experience into his workshops on
"Healing and Spiritual Consciousness Through Music".
His love of nature, spirituality, music and writing gradually evolved
into writing mystical and nature poetry and essays on the spiritual path.
Gordon is currently based in La Crescenta, CA, where he continues to
support the work of the Vedanta Centre and Ananda Ashrama.
