NARRATIVE OF TWO VOYAGES TO THE RIVER SIERRA LEONE During the Years 1791-1793

NARRATIVE OF TWO VOYAGES TO THE RIVER SIERRA LEONE During the Years 1791 - 1793. A. M. Falconbridge. Frank Cass & Co Ltd, London. 1967 First Thus. 288pp Hardback. Anna Maria Falconbridge’s Narrative of Two Voyages, consisting of fourteen letters to a friend about her experiences, is the first published Englishwoman’s narrative of a visit to West Africa. It was one of the first books of abolitionist propaganda to be published in respect of the export of slaves from the area to the West Indies. The Cass Library of African Studies began publishing important books of Africana interest in 1960. Although facsimile editions the standard of reproduction was of such quality that the books served a new emerging market especially in the United States where President Kennedy had ruled that black studies had to be taught at every American university. This copy is bound in cloth covered boards with bright gilt titling to a black panel on the spine and gilt decoration to the front. The spine is lightly sunned. The text block is bright, white, tight and square, a lovely copy of an uncommon book. Ref F5.…
