Published Price £11.50 This is a brisk account, compiled in 1923, eight years after the events it narrates, of the doings of the 1st and 2nd (Regular) battalions of the 'Glorious Glosters' in the opening weeks of the Great War. Flung into France as part of the BEF in August 1914, the Regiment passed through the furnace of some of the fiercest fighting during those chaotic weeks, including the Retreat from Mons and the First battle of Ypres, wheh the German advance was finally stemmed and held. Compiled from the recollections of those who survived, this is a valuable account of the proud fighting record of the old regular army that was practically destroyed in the fighting narrated here.
