Common painful mistakes that are made by project teams using NEC3, with solutions and measures to avoid them. Based on real and relevant case studies, this book presents practical advice in a succinct format, acting as a quick reference manual; based on the authors' experience of supporting NEC users on projects over the past 10 years and a collection of over 1000 FAQs. You can learn what happens when people use real, everyday language which isn't consistent with NEC language, or when people have failed to follow an NEC process and what they should do to get back on track, and much, much more.

This book provides detailed answers by experienced NEC consultants to over 240 common questions on NEC3 contracts. The questions are based on real questions posed to the NEC Users Group helpline over the years, which guarantees their relevance. NEC users will find this book extremely helpful in terms of practical solutions to using the contracts in challenging situations. Each set of clauses, such as on compensation events or testing and defects, has a dedicated chapter. Each question has a fully referenced answer, which not only includes relevant clause descriptions but also practical approaches that can be taken. In addition, the responses give useful tips on the preparation of the contract documentation. The writing style, as with the NEC3 contracts themselves, is simple and non-legalistic, which means it is a useful, easy reference which could be used quickly on a regular basis. With NEC now being used widely in the UK, and with greater uptake in many other countries throughout the world, this book will be an invaluable resource for contract users. It is aimed towards practitioners of varying backgrounds including engineers, supervisors, quantity surveyors and contractors. In summary, this is one of the most easy-to-use references for the everincreasing number of people who use NEC. --ICE Journal Civil Engineering Vol 169 Feb 2016
