Original staples and printed brown wrappers. 30, [2 blanks] pp. Light spotting at upper blank margins. Very Good. Moorfield Storey [1845-1929] was a white Boston lawyer and first President of the NAACP. He was lead counsel in the 1917 landmark case of Buchanan v. Warley, in which the Supreme Court held that State-mandated racially segregated housing was unconstitutional. His Address documents the barbaric injustices endured by Black Americans: lynchings, voter suppression, legal double standards, lack of access to education, segregation in public life, violence at the hands of mobs and purported law enforcement. His indictment of the Nation's failure to uphold the rights of Negro citizens, guaranteed by the Constitution and federal statutes for more than fifty years, relies upon indisputable contemporary data, southern press clippings, and courtroom statistics. "This is the situation which confronts this country. We call it 'The Negro Problem,' but it is not. . . It is a white man's problem which confronts us. The fault is in us, not in our colored neighbors. It is our senseless and wicked prejudice against our fellow-men which is the root of all of our troubles."
