Early edition of this moral Christmas story, set in the cadence of THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS - mounted on linen for use by children. This tale of a sweet orphan girl who receives kindness from strangers on Christmas Eve feels very much like THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL with a happier outcome. McLoughlin published this book earlier in a different format, on regular paper with wrappers: the linen-mounted leaves of this edition are precursors to the modern board book, meant to withstand rougher handling by very young children. 10.75'' x 9.25''. Original stiff color pictorial wrapper. Six full-page chromolithograph plates. [6] leaves. Wrapper with some edgwear and a few tiny scuffs, glue repair to spine. Leaves with a couple small spots of soil. Vibrant.
