"The reader is invited in the succeeding pages to examine down to almost microscopic detail the greatest physical thing on earth." - Preface. With more than 296 illustrations. Apparently this is the last of the Audel's editions on steam engines. "The subject matter .is not arranged in chapters, but according to the more natural order best designed to explain at greater or less length the different themes discussed. . There is also a description of the numerous types of the engines now in operation, such as the Corliss, Westinghouse, etc.".

Mr. Joyce was a founding partner of the former Chicago Rare Book Center, of Chicago and Evanston, Illinois. Proprietor Tom Joyce appeared regularly as the book appraiser on "The Appraisal Fair", seen on Home And Garden Television, HGTV. We still do appraisals on a wide variety of subjects, from literature to history, fine books, children's, presses, theology, law, medicine, maps, autographs. These topics are reflected in our inventory, and much more, including Sherlockiana.
