764p. Ex-library; REBOUND. A hardcover book that has been rebound in 3/4 brown cloth, with marbled boards and crackled and chipped leather title plates. Boards rubbed; edges and corners worn. Library stamps to title pages of each issue. Pages slightly toned with age. Text clean and binding tight. A good reading copy. Volume 158 of THE NORTH AMERICAN REVIEW, the first literary magazine in the United States. This volume contains the issues for January through June 1894. Features include "The Hawaiian Question" by Frederic R. Coudert, an article on "Dramatic Criticism" by Bram Stoker, "Territorial Sovereignty and the Papacy" by Rev. Bernard O'Reilly, "Hostility to Roman Catholics" by George Parsons Lathrop and Rev. William Croswell Doane, and "Woman Suffrage in Practice" by Hon. Davis H. Waite, Governer of Colorado and Hon. Lorenzo Crounse, Governor of Nebraska, explaining the benefits to their respective states from their recent enfranchisement of women.
