As Without A Name

He lives in the shadows, as without a name, reaching wordlessly for someone—anyone—to see him. It is a lonely existence, yearning for a word or a touch that will prove to him, and to those around him, that he is alive. Walking the mile to and from school each day, his only respite is the journey itself, an escape from both school and a home life that leave him longing for human connection. His mother, gone for all hours at one of her two jobs or the local bar, never utters his name. After school each day, he takes care of his twin brothers, feeding and bathing them each night, his existence unnoticed by the world. He contends with food insecurity, active protesting, and the devastating impacts of immigration, immigration law, and the lives shaped by both. Witness the powerful effects of being seen as someone finally calls him by name, and he begins to shape a life of his own.
