The Names of Allah: A Companion for the New Muslim (8)

Call upon Him by them.

The Qur'an commands the believer to call upon Allah by His Most Beautiful Names. Generations of Muslims have memorised the canonical 99. A new Muslim needs a careful, contemplative companion for that work.

The Names of Allah is that companion. Each of the 99 names treated in turn - Qur'anic basis, classical understanding, and what the name means for the believer's life - with the names as they appear in the Qur'an and practices for memorising them.

Read slowly. There are 99 names. There is no hurry.

Second edition, revised and reset. Book Eight of The New Muslim Companion - a series of twenty books for the new Muslim, the returning Muslim, and the curious reader: plain English, no Arabic assumed, honest about where scholars differ.

Ali Imam is a physician, scholar, and reader. He writes for the new Muslim the way he would have wanted to be written for: clearly, warmly, and without pretension.
