The Names of The Days (Paperback)

Each day of the week necessarily has its own name, how else would we distinguish them. The question of why in English each was so named is explained in this delightfully conceived book which is beautifully illustrated by Sue Hooper-Lawrie in another collaboration with Neil McLeod.

Neil McLeod was born in Oxford in 1947, while his father attended Merton College. He was raised in Kenya in the 1950's, and received schooling from the Holy Ghost Fathers at Saint Mary's in Nairobi.  The family returned to England before the flag was brought down and Kenya gained her Independence. Neil went up to Guy's Hospital to study dentistry and came to America as a Fulbright Scholar to continue his studies at the University of Southern California.  Doctor McLeod is past winner of the Los Slamgeles Poetry Slam.  He writes a blog spot called "A Biting Chance" where much more of his poetry may be read.
Doctor McLeod is a performing poet who has recited at Highland Games, consulate dinners and Burns Nights for the last 36 years. He is happily married, lives and works in Los Angeles, has three children, and practices as a dentist on Sunset Boulevard.  His poem "The First Thanksgiving" is an increasingly popular seasonal favorite.

And The Artist:  Sue Hooper-Lawrie was taken to Kenya at the age of one. She was brought up and educated there, able to open her eyes each day and witness the richest tapestry of colors; breathtaking scenery that drew them for hundreds of miles  of uninterrupted and unpolluted ecology; the awe inspiring sights and the rhythmic and soul invading sounds; the beautiful, proud and strong people; jaw dropping and majestic, yet fragile wildlife; and the perfect weather, these and so much more were her daily nourishment. At 16 she returned suddenly to the UK and was confronted with a huge culture shock which took many years to unravel. A solution was found in her rediscovery of her love for art and all things creative.
