"The simpler I keep things, the better I play. Try to keep that in mind, especially if you are just taking up the game. Trust your instincts. Find a swing that feels comfortable and works for you and then practice until you can groove that swing. " -- Nancy Lopez Since establishing herself as the game's greatest superstar by capturing both the Rookie and Player of the Year awards in 1978, Nancy Lopez has gone on to garner dozens of victories as top competitor on the LPGA tour. Now she adds to her accomplishments the book that gives golfers on all levels hundreds of tips for taking strokes off their game. Filled with action photos of Lopez and step-by-step instruction, The Complete Golfer covers all the essential time-proven techniques, from basic fundamentals and equipment choice to precise club-by-club shotmaking and strategies for better play. Additional chapters make this book the most up-to-date, comprehensive manual available for women golfers today. Topics include essential exercise and nutrition tips for better performance, successfully combining a career in golf with a fulfilling family life, playing golf while pregnant, and teaching a child to play. Interspersed throughout the book are candid assessments of the players Lopez has faced in competition. Don Wade is senior editor for Golf Digest magazine and coauthor of Ken Venturi's Sroke Savers. Wade has worked as a feature reporter for both CBS and NBC sports. Seller Inventory # 00099911182
Covers equipment choice, shotmaking, basics of swing, strategy, and competing, with special sections on nutrition, women, and teaching children
From Library Journal:
Lopez's book, written with an editor at Golf Digest, is not so complete, despite its title. The ten-year veteran covers very briefly the usual gamut of golfing fundamentals step by step. The most interesting parts of the book are "The Lopez File," brief appraisals of female players who have impressed Lopez on the tour, and "Some of My Favorite Men." While Lopez gives some special tips for women only, her tour record and recent induction into the LPGA Hall of Fame (July 1987) call for a more in-depth presentation than this effort. Still, this should be of interest to YA and high school libraries, as well as Lopez fans. Eugene J. Millich, Univ. of Wisconsin at La Crosse Lib.
