The Napoleonic Empire in Southern Italy and the Rise of the Secret Societies, Vol. 1 (Classic Reprint)

This book offers a detailed examination of the effects of the Napoleonic Empire on the southern Italian kingdom of Naples and the broader socio-political climate in which they occurred. The author argues that the Napoleonic era was not merely a foreign imposition on southern Italy, but rather an extension and intensification of trends already present in Neapolitan society. The book traces the development of southern Italy's feudal system, its economy, and its cultural traditions, and examines how these factors shaped the region's response to the French invasion. It also sheds light on how the Napoleonic era influenced the development of the Italian national consciousness and the eventual unification of the country. Given that the book meticulously examines the complex social and political dynamics of the period, it will be of interest to scholars of Italian history, as well as anyone interested in the broader impact of the Napoleonic Wars on European society.
