12mo, pp. 281, [1]; 7 plates and text illustrations throughout, many full-page; original brown cloth, spine lettered in gilt; spine sunned, corners worn, shallow tide stain on upper edge, flyleaves lacking. Essentially a school manual to train youth for their part in the Civil War, based upon the concept of a national guard, by a colonel in the 95th New York guard, with question and answers on the basics of war, exercises, formations, and a 22-page dictionary of military terms.
