Included are selections from THOMAS JEFFERSON, Lord Chesterfield, Washington Irving, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Oliver Goldsmith, The Bible, Patrick Henry, Daniel Webster, William Cullen Bryant, James Russell Lowell.and many more. Here are some examples of the Contents: Discovery of America; Of Lying; Criminality of Intemperance; The Worm; The Indians of North America; Grandeur and Interest of American Antiquities; The American Indian - As He Was, and As He Is; Danger of Being a Good Singer; Description of Niagara Falls; Passage of the Shenandoah Through the Blue Ridge; Cruelty to Animals Reproved; Punishment of a Liar.and much more. Condition: The top and bottom edges of the spine are worn down. Cloth tears at 3 of the cover corners. Tight binding with no loose pages. There is a bit of separation where the top and bottom edges of the spine meet the covers - despite this, both covers remain firmly attached. Occasional mild foxing to the pages, otherwise clean. The lower-outer corner of page 49 has torn away (the text is unaffected). Author's "To Teachers" slip affixed to the front pastedown. Overall the book is in Good- condition.
