Nattie the witch girl seems to have a normal day, eating breakfast, going to school, and playing with her pet, until you realize that her breakfast is newt loops, her school is a witch school, and her pet is a lizard.
From School Library Journal:
Kindergarten-Grade 2--A lighthearted, imaginative look at the daily routine of a witch child. Nattie's day isn't too different from that of any youngster--except her breakfast is Newt Loops, she rides to school on her father's broom, her les sons include spell casting, and she plays baseball with a live bat. Most kids will overlook the scarcity of plot, and delight instead in the humorous details of the wry illustrations. They will sure ly wish that their class pet could be a dragon, and that their parent's bedtime stories could produce a real giant com ing down the beanstalk. The combina tion of text (which merely describes any typical child's day) and charming pictures washed with witchy purple hues creates a gentle irony that should delight young readers. Because of the small details in the illustrations, this en tertaining offering is best for one-on- one or small group sharing.
