Moderate wear, tips bumped and frayed, board edges and spine ends worn, contents VG, small bookseller's label on front paste-down, prior owner's inscription on back end-paper. Apparently the first part of the book uses sheets remaining from the natural history section of the first (1842) edition of Thompson's book, the added 1953 appendix (the change in paper composition is notable) deals mostly with additional information on natural history and some on civil history. An index of the appendix follows that section, followed by the original index to the 1842 sheets.
