Reviews
This is yet another book on menopause. A physician and a science writer have collaborated to produce a text that covers the basic medical and physiological information from a holistic point of view. Less comprehensive than the revised edition of Winnifred Cutler and Celso-Ramon Garcia, M.D.'s Menopause: A Guide for Women and the Men Who Love Them ( LJ 11/1/91. rev. ed.), it emphasizes the risks of hormone replacement therapy while leaving the final choice up to the individual woman. Sadja Greenwood, M.D.'s Menopause, Naturally (Volcano Pr., 1989. rev. ed.) is similar in scope and outlook. All of these books stress the importance of nutrition, exercise, and general health maintenance. Natural Menopause has a resource list and a good bibliography. This is a good book for public libraries that need additional material about menopause. For a more general title dealing with the issues of menopause, see Gail Sheehy's The Silent Passage ( LJ 4/1/92).
