Nature in Your Backyard: Simple Activities for Children

Presents projects, experiments, and activities to teach children about nature

Gr. 2^-4. Cheers to Lang and the staff of the Cayuga Nature Center in Ithaca, New York, for developing this practical book filled with easy, hands-on science activities. Parents and teachers will rejoice at the lack of planning needed and the refreshing simplicity of the projects. Indeed, many of the activities are easy enough for children to do on their own, and almost all require nothing more than common household products and natural materials found in the backyard. Each project includes a materials list, simple directions accompanied by helpful watercolor illustrations, some thought-provoking questions to focus children on what to look for, and a short explanation of the anticipated results. A must for libraries in communities committed to an active approach to science. Lauren Peterson
