You Need You: The Mind Set and Practical Guide to Coming Home

After more than thirty years of incarceration, Anthony Deon Hamilton returned home prepared to rebuild his life—but preparation did not remove the barriers.

You Need You combines an honest personal story with practical guidance for people preparing for release, rebuilding after incarceration, and supporting a loved one through reentry. Anthony openly examines the decision that changed his life, the anger, fear, resentment, and survival mentality he had to overcome, and the faith, education, mentorship, and accountability that helped transform him.

The book also confronts the realities waiting outside: background checks, employment rejection, unfamiliar technology, online applications, financial pressure, family relationships, parole restrictions, GPS monitoring, and the frustration of rebuilding more slowly than expected.

Readers will learn how to:

• Prepare mentally before release
• Explain a conviction during an interview
• Rebuild credit and manage money carefully
• Navigate parole, curfews, and GPS restrictions
• Use technology while avoiding scams
• Set realistic goals and respond to rejection
• Strengthen family relationships and personal accountability
• Use faith, patience, and gratitude to keep moving forward

Reentry is not easy, but a past decision does not have to determine the rest of your life. Your family needs you—but, more importantly, you need you to show up for yourself.
