Syndicated columnist Jorgensen ( The Graying of America ) here unravels the mysteries of financial instruments and the U.S. tax code. Starting with the premise that "we are a nation of spenders, not savers," he offers guidance for financial success ("save ten percent of your income first"), explaining bonds, money market accounts, return rates, the stock market, equivalent yields, etc., and he provides investment portfolio models. Jorgensen's comments on insurance ("buy insurance for catastrophic dollar losses"), and pension plans ("don't rely on your company-paid pension") are on the mark. This study could become the personal financial planning book in the field. 25,000 first printing; $25,000 ad/promo; paperback and audio rights to Simon & Schuster; Fortune Book Club alternate; author tour.
