Private Havey received thirteen major decorations in six months of combat, from the Battle of the Bulge to the Liberation of the Death Camp at Dachau in April, 1945. His accounts of the battles and adventures are real and riveting. Now, as a 93 year old, his long term memory is still exceptional, after 33,430 sunrises in these years. In effect, Chick Havey never left the battlefield. This book is the story of that exceptional life.

Birney T. “Chick” Havey Jr. descended from Hessian soldiers paid to fight with Washington's Armies during the Revolutionary War. Landing in Europe in November, 1944, he fought in northern France, Battle of the Bulge and the Invasion of Germany. He received 14 major decorations including the Purple Heart, 3 Bronze Stars and the Silver Star. In civilian life, he sold restaurant equipment to wholesale dealers and supermarkets. He retired to Galveston, Texas in 1986, built a home on the water and opened a restaurant equipment business. He is still active today.
