no date, 1905. Red printed wrappers. 123 pp., plus index. A few black and white photo plates present. Presumably a reworking of the popular Buckeye Cookery cookbook, written by Estelle Woods Wilcox. Wilcox graduated from college in 1870, giving a speech on women's suffrage, and published Buckeye Cookery in 1876, as a fundraiser for a church. The popularity of the cookbook grew and went through several editions. Wilcox established the magazine, the Housekeeper, that focused on aspects of managing a household, while also advocating for women to work outside their homes. This book focuses on bread making and recipes for bread, as well as tea cakes, griddle cakes, layer cakes, beverages including coffee and tea, etc. Several handwritten recipes are written in the front and back of the book. GOOD condition. Heavy uneven fading to the covers, with heavy creasing, scuffing, spotting and staining. Some soiling and edgewear. Heavy toning to the text block.
