Sea chart backed with contemporary linen. Generally good to very good condition, flaking and chipping at edges, with minor loss, heaviest at western border. Light water stain at bottom left corner. There are manuscript tracks of several ships, including the Surprise, in the eastern part of the map, off the coast of South America. The map extends west to include all of Australia, north to include the Philippines. Shows just the southern tip of the big island of Hawaii. This is a rare, used on ship, chart of the huge expanse of the South Pacific. Shows the Gilbert, Marshall, Caroline, Solomon, Society and many other island groups as well as the larger islands of New Guinea, New Caledonia, Fiji, New Zealand, Borneo, Java, et. al.
