Item description from seller

Pages: 309 Language: Russian. Music for the black-and-white film. Op. 116. Score. Published in full for the first time. Edited by Victor Ekimovsky. Explanatory Article by Olga Dombrovskaya. This publication is based on the author's manuscript kept in Dmitri Shostakovich's Archive, rec. gr. 1, section 1, f. 228. It also uses the 1987 edition (D. Shostakovich, Collected Works: in 42 volumes, Vol. 42, Muzyka Publishers, Moscow)-fragments from the music to the film Hamlet and the edition of Suite from the music to the film Hamlet compiled by Levon Atovmian (Muzyka Publishers, Moscow, 1968). The author's manuscript of the score is collated with the soundtrack of the film. The author's manuscript of the score does not always correspond to the realistic sound of the music in the film. Some of the items feature cuts and inserts, some are not used in full in the film, while some (or their fragments) are repeated in different places in the film; there is also music that is missing in the author's manuscript. Some of the items (Nos. 4, 7, 12, 17, 18, 25, 31, 33, 35, 36, 37) are absent in the author's manuscript altogether, although they are designated in Grigory Kozintsev's production script with specific names. For more details, see Olga Dombrovskaya's article. This publication is printed in keeping with the author's manuscript. Complete information about the differences between the author's manuscript of the score and the realistic music heard in the film in the order it appeared is given in comments. In soundtrack, the sound of a church bell ringing (Campana da chiesa), which is missing in manuscript, is heard during the credits. 9790706427072.…
