Volume 1 has the text in lesson format 193 pages + Viii pp of prelims and a 6 page publishers catalogue at the rear, the 2nd volume has the 40 copper engraved plates and prelims. (as called for). Matching booksellers labels inside both volumes "William Whyte & Co, 15 George St, Edinburgh" to inside front boards. Bindings on both volumes are worn at the spines with loss to head and tail and edges rubbed, the contents are firm but with some foxing and age spots and some very light watermarks at some edges, the volumes remain very good overall. 5.2 x 4. 2 inches. but octavo as bound in 8's. *Printed originally in 1789 with 44 plates, this set was given a new set of engravings for this Harris edition and reduced to 40 as stated on the title pages. We very rarely use "fine" or "mint" as a description, mainly due to the age and the fact that 99.9% of what we sell has been pre-owned and therefor Fine would not be a term for a book we sell despite its fine-like appearance. We always take items back unreservedly if not in the condition as described. We always try to describe fully.
