"The New Cookery" is a comprehensive and influential guide to healthful, meatless nutrition and scientific culinary preparation. Authored by Lenna Frances Cooper, a pioneer in the field of dietetics and a leading figure at the Battle Creek Sanitarium, this work advocates for a diet centered on health, vigor, and the prevention of disease through proper food selection.

The book provides an extensive collection of recipes that emphasize the use of whole grains, legumes, fruits, nuts, and vegetables. Cooper applies a scientific lens to the kitchen, offering detailed information on the caloric and nutritional value of ingredients to help readers craft balanced meals. Beyond simple recipes, the work explores the philosophy of "biologic living," providing instructions for everything from nourishing soups and main courses to wholesome desserts and beverages.

As an essential resource for those seeking a meat-free lifestyle, "The New Cookery" serves as both a practical manual for the home cook and a foundational text in the history of vegetarianism and modern clinical nutrition. Its focus on simple, pure ingredients and the medicinal properties of a well-planned diet continues to offer valuable insights into the evolution of health-conscious cooking.
