Two prelim pages (with sections containing the key to the sounds of the marked letters and remarks on the key) removed, large closed tear on following page, boards rubbed with some loss from corners, hinges neatly repaired by previous owner. 1888 Hard Cover. 687, [1] pp. Thumb-indexed, profusely illustrated. A contemporary of Noah Webster, Joseph Emerson Worcester was a lexicographer who also worked on Webster's Dictionary, but published several dictionaries and other reference works as well. He and Webster engaged in what are now known as The Dictionary Wars, in which Webster slung accusations of plagiarism, while Worcester maintained that his work was his own. Seller Inventory # 2350287
