An extensive biographical dictionary from the eighteenth century. A new edition, greatly enlarged and improved. Containing entries on Agrippa, Francis Bacon, Anne Boleyn, Caesar and many others. Arranged alphabetically. Also including bibliographies of those who are discussed. With indexes to the rear of each volume. Nine volumes of twelve only (missing volumes VI, VII and XII). In contemporary calf bindings. Externally, rather worn, with dampstaining and rubbing. Loss to three backstrips. All joints are cracked, with two boards nearly detached. Internally, binding tender in places, with some pages working loose. Pages are bright, though with some scattered instances of foxing. There are also some scattered ink annotations to the margins.
