New Guinea journal, October 2, 1961 to August 4, 1962 is a typed field journal by Nobel laureate D. Carleton Gajdusek (1923–2008), chronicling his medical-ethnographic expedition to the highlands of New Guinea. Carleton Gajdusek Papers (NLM History of Medicine Division) and the Online Archive of California (Box 11, Folder 2), part of his Series 10 "Journals." • It documents his ongoing research on kuru, the fatal spongiform brain disease among the Fore and Kukukuku peoples, which earned Gajdusek the 1976 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
