About this Item
Roll of New Hampshire Men at Louisburg, Cape Breton, 1745; Edward N. Pearson, Public Printer, Concord, N. H., 1896. George C. Gilmour, special representative, was appointed to represent the State of New Hampshire at the 150th celebration of the capture of Louisburg, to be held at Louisburg June 17, 1895. New Hampshire was taking pride in the fact that their militia took Louisburg from the veteran troops of France. However, the muster rolls from that expedition had been lost. The number of men from New Hampshire in the expedition when it sailed for Louisburg was 502 plus 120 recruits for a total 622. The author undertook to identify as many of the participants as possible and in the end was able to identify 496 members of the militia. Their names and a history of the campaign are included in this small volume. At the ceremony, the Louisburg Monument was erected and celebrated To commemorate the capture of Louisburg A. D. 1745 erected by the Society of Colonial Wars A. D. 1895. The volume has a map called the Siege of Louisburg 1745 and a layout of Louisburg as well. This softcover book of 63 pages is in good condition. The covers are tattered and worn but the contents are in very good condition. A very acceptable copy of a very scarce work related to the first siege of Louisburg. Seller Inventory # 19119
