A widely used school book of the period, this title passed through twenty-five editions.Published anonymously, but credited to John Lockman, an English author and translator of French works. He also wrote histories of Christianity, Greece and Rome. In full contemporary calf. Externally, with rubbing to the extremities and loss to the spine head and tail. Rear joint is starting but firm. Cracks to the front joint, but remains firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with scattered spots throughout. Light toning to the plates. Contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper. Good.
