New Images of the Last Things: Karl Rahner on Death and Life After Death

Book by Murphy, Marie

"Why must we die and what happens to us when we do?" Thus Murphy launches a popularized interpretation of noted Catholic theologian Rahner's views on eschatology, aiming (in true Rahnerian spirit) to make complex doctrine understandable to a wider contemporary audience. In clear, accessible language she explains Rahner's views on the importance of ongoing surrender to God, which leads up to self-abandon at death and initiates our "all-cosmic relationship" with the rest of creation. Then she explores the implications this has for the Church's traditional notions of purgatory, hell, and judgment. Helpful and well done.-- EC
