The New Irish Constitution : an Exposition and Some Arguments

The New Irish Constitution : An Exposition And Some Arguments by J. H. Morgan presents a scholarly and multi-voiced examination of Ireland's constitutional question as debated around the proposed Home Rule and devolution within the British Empire. The volume, edited on behalf of the Eighty Club, gathers contributions from notable jurists, historians, and political thinkers who analyze the Government of Ireland Bill, its federal versus devolved nature, and the imperial supremacy that would condition Irish legislation. Part I surveys the new constitution and its legal framework; Part II offers a historical argument tracing Irish nationality and devolution; Part III collects contemporary views from Catholic, Protestant, and Nonconformist perspectives. Throughout, the editors argue for a measured, inclusive approach to Irish self-government within the Empire, weighing legislative structures, executive arrangements, and fiscal relations. Although presenting diverse opinions, the book collectively advocates a pathway toward greater Irish autonomy while preserving imperial unity.
