Most notable is the section of full page plates, here bound at the front of the volume, striking in their detail and generous size.** Dr George Motherby (1731-1793) was a Yorkshire born physician and medical writer who practised in Highgate. He was one of the pioneers of the variolation method of immunization against smallpox, which he described in an entry in his Dictionary.** The Fourth Edition, published in 1795.
