An insightful travelogue transporting the reader to Parisian streets approximately fifteen years after the fall of Napoleon, with folding maps and engraved views of the city. The sixteenth revised edition of A New Picture of Paris, or, the Stranger's Guide to The French Metropolis, written by Edward Planta. Published in 1831, first published at the beginning of the century. In the publisher's full black grain morocco, with the original end papers preserved. Contains all five folding maps, and all eighteen other engraved plates, including a frontispiece. Collated complete. With the French capital having undergone rapid change through the French Revolution and Napoleon, this insightful travelogue offers readers the most up-to-date information for those wishing to visit the majestic city. Planta delves into extraordinary detail that transports the reader onto the Parisian streets, including descriptions of cafes and gaming houses as well as its famous statues and sites. In the publisher's full black grain morocco, with the original end papers preserved. Contains contemporary ink inscription to verso of frontispiece. Externally, mostly smart, with the odd small rubbing mark to boards and a couple of faint creases to spine. Slight rubbing to joints and edges, with a small chip to head of front joint. Hinges are starting, but firm preceding and following the endpapers, with tail of front hinge somewhat tender. Slight browning to end papers. Internally, gutter slightly exposed between pp. 144-145, however remaining firmly bound. Creasing to map edges and faint spots to rear.
