To say this impression is a reprint of Robins seminal 1742 book would be a serious disservice as Richmond Publishing went to great lengths in 1972 in an effort to faithfully reproduce Robins original calligraphy in an elegant facsimile edition which includes two appendices of related subject matter from the authors other writings. Also included in this now hard to find book is a new introduction by W.S. Curtis with a new summary of contents for ease of reference along with a biography of the author which expands on Robins scientific and technological background and methods. Robins seminal work on gunpowder and ballistics was based on an extensive series of experiments in gunnery with the results embodied in this famous authoritative book and reproduced in facsimile in this edition. Robins also made a number of important experiments on the resistance of the air to the motion of projectiles and on the force of gunpowder, with computation of the velocities thereby communicated to projectiles. He compared the results of his theory with experimental determinations of the ranges of mortars and cannon, and gave practical maxims for the management of artillery. He also made observations on the flight of rockets and wrote on the advantages of rifled gun barrels (also reproduced in this edition). This forty year old impression (95pp) and its original turquoise cloth covered boards are in near fine condition with the signature of noted book reviewer M. Hammerton (Psychological Aspects of Nuclear War) The Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology at the head of the title page.
