Item description from seller

MILLIKAN, Robert A. and G.H. Cameron, "New Results on Cosmic Rays", in Nature (Supplement), vol 121 no. 3036, 7 January 1928, pp 19-26 in the issue of pp 44, xii, viii. In the original wrappers, complete. GOOD/VG copy, though the spine of the issue is a little rough. [++] From this paper: "The cosmic radiation is defined as that small portion of the ‘penetrating radiation’ which is of cosmic origin." and then on p.21/2   "All this [the experiments of Millikan and Cameron] constitutes pretty unambiguous evidence that the high altitude rays do not originate in our atmosphere, very certainly not in the lower nine-tenths of it, and justifies the designation ‘cosmic rays’." [++] "In 1926 and 1927, Robert Andrews Millikan (1868–1953) measured cosmic rays from various altitudes and in an underground lake, and proposed that cosmic rays originate outside the Solar System. After further experiments in 1928, he concluded that “the rays must come, in the main, from beyond the Milky Way.
