About the Author
Kristi Godwin is a South Georgia native who has been an avid reader and writer since age nine. She had a life-long desire to become a counselor in order to work with abused and neglected children, and attained degrees both in Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapy toward that end. She worked for a decade with children and teens who were in the foster system, had a history of abuse and trauma, or were involved in the legal system in some way. During this time she founded a non-profit geared toward mentoring at-risk youth in order to help them pursue their dreams and goals in life, rather than being overcome by their circumstances and perpetuating the cycle of poverty, abuse, and addiction. Though she won writing contests as a child, had a column in a local paper, and had other publications (including White Anti-Racist Role Models at age 17), her writing took a back seat to her work with children for many years. However, by the time she reached forty years of age she was able to complete her autobiography, Memoirs of a Southern Girl: The Story of My Life, a dissertation, A Collection of Poems, and Words of Faith. Dr. Godwin continues to work as a licensed therapist, is involved in various ministries, and is an active mother to her four children (and three fur-babies!). Dr. Godwin is a passionate lover of animals and people and strives to do as much as she can to help make the world a kinder, more loving place. Healing Beyond Trauma is a self-healing guide for survivors of trauma and abuse designed to bring love and light toward that end.
