Gems From The Book: *Handling is the art of making dogs look their absolute best! *Handlers must convey a positive attitude: Those who doubt their ability to win are rarely mistaken. *A person who has never failed has failed to extend himself. *Subtlety can mean the difference between superior and merely adequate handling.
Since starting his own Greenfield Kennels in 1967 and obtaining his official AKC Professional Handler’s License, Peter Green has won Bests in Show at every major event in the country at least once—Chicago International, Philadelphia, Boston, Beverly Hills, Santa Barbara and Golden Gate numerous times, Montgomery County Terrier Specialty seven times and at the Westminster Kennel Club on an unprecedented four occasions.
Mario Migliorini, whose father was a successful Greyhound breeder and trainer, has worked with dogs since childhood. He learned to groom and handle terriers from a family friend while in his teens. A successful breeder, trainer and professional handler on two continents, Mario and his wife Margaret have owned titleholders from all seven Groups. A former sports reporter, newspaper columnist and editor of a professional pet care magazine, Mario was a member of the Dog Writer’s Association of American for almost thirty years, during that time he authored more than twenty-five books about dogs and other animals. His articles have appeared in many major magazines since 1961.
For more than four decades Mario embraced the possibility of introducing the Italian Spinoni at Westminster, like he did at Crufts in 1959. Doing so would have completed a unique double, the opportunity for which may never recur in the history of purebred dogs. Regrettably, it was not in the cards. The Spinoni Italiano made its Westminster debut in 2001.
