Add to basketNew York, NY, Endicott & Co, [1861]. Oblong broadside (60.0 x 90.0 cm). Hand-coloured lithographed plate. = A very large, seldom-seen originally hand-coloured print depicting the City of New York, a paddle steamer built, together with its twin, City of Boston, in 1861, for the Norwich & New York Transportation Company, for the route between these two cities through the Long Island Strait, and inland through New London, Norwich and Worcester. Both ships were just over 100 meters long, weighed 1,500 tonnes and had wooden hulls. More detailed information on the ship's specifications is printed below the image. Skilful repairs to tears in the left and right margin, just into the printed area. Otherwise an attractive, bright and fresh lithograph. Morrison, J. H., History of American Steam Navigation, pp. 331-332; Stanton, S. W. Stanton's American Steam Vessels, pp. 164-165.
