Grade 3-5 This brief introduction will serve mainly to whet readers' appetite for more information about New Zealand. Like most series books, several subjects are given cursory coverage: history, natural history, culture, economics, and geography are each allotted a few pages. Armitage packs a great deal of information into the book, although most topics are oversimplified. Each page is crammed with good quality color photographs. Maps and charts provide graphic and statistical information. The book's primary weakness is its lack of sufficient detail to clarify important areas of history and culture, especially with regard to the Maori. Readers using the book for general reports will find sufficient information, but those wanting to know more about the Maori need to look elsewhere. Libraries needing more on New Zealand will be well served, especially when this book is used in conjunction with John Ball's We Live in New Zealand (Bookwright, 1984).
